Vino - The Beverage

Wine is deeply ingrained into the culture of Italy.  It is the common beverage for meals from midday on to evening.  At any cafe or restaurant you will see wine on nearly every table.  It is readily available and in very good quality for a reasonable price.  There are also wine shops of various types along the streets with great selections available.

It is interesting to note that we have seen very few bars or pubs.  It's mostly restaurants and cafe's.  Other than seeing beer served sometimes, it is mostly wine being served and consumed.   For all of the wine served each day, no drunken behavior has been on display either.  As I said in the title, it's a common beverage here.

On our first walk from the hotel in Sorrento to the city center we spotted a small but interesting wine shop along the street we were walking.  This one was more interesting because the wine was from the local region of Italy, and is stored and sold from barrels.  Customers can bring in their own bottles or buy bottles right there in the shop.  Samples are available before purchasing, of course.  And the prices are very reasonable at 3-4 euros per liter.

Below are a couple of photos of the shop.  We bought a really nice liter of Primitivo that we enjoyed during our stay in Sorrento.
