Sorrento Walking Tour

We joined our Monograms tour in Sorrento and our first organized activity was a half day walking tour of Sorrento.  Our local tour host, Annamarie, was terrific and was really helpful.  The walking tour included the historic city, Piazza Tasso, a beautiful local church garden, the port area, and introduction to the two local crafts.  Below are a few select photos from the walking tour.

Sorrento's two local crafts are inlaid wood working, and hand carved cameos.  The cameos were especially interesting as we had not known how cameos were made.  They are actually hand carved from conch shells taken from the sea.  Sorrento must import their shells today as the local waters no longer provide conch.  But originally the conch were harvested locally.  To learn more about how cameos are made, click here.
