After all of the hassles with the lost bag we were really glad to be on our way to Capri (pronounced CAP-ri, not ca-PRI). Locally called the "Pearl of the Mediterranean", Capri has been a resort since the time of the Roman Republic. It is strikingly beautiful with jagged, rocky terrain next to the azure blue, clear sea. For more history on Capri see Capri on Wikipedia.
We rode one of the hydrofoil boats from Naples to Capri. It was fast but not otherwise unique in any way. The sea was a bit rough visually but the hydrofoil took it well and was fairly smooth. The weather was cloudy and windy at sea, and threatening rain.
Arriving at the Capri docks the weather cleared a bit and the sun peeked out occasionally. The docks were quite busy as you can see below. Nice view of the Marina Grande also.
Our hotel is a small 24 room 4 star right in the marina area. This turns out to be a good choice as we are close to a lot of activity, as well as next to the cable car running up the mountain to Capri Center. This island is actually a mountain jutting out of the sea and everything is built on the side of the mountain. Capri Center is quite a long distance up the mountain and too far to walk.
We had intentionally rented a sea view room and were very pleased to have a nice balcony with a great view of the harbor. Although the shy was cloudy and the light flat, you see below that we have been enjoying a great view.
I fell a bit behind and am catching up on your travels! ;) The view looks amazing! Like a photograph!
