Houston to Capri, the journey

The journey was longer than we expected and hit some snags, but interesting overall.  The Air France leg from Houston to Paris was great as we were in Premium Economy, which are bigger and better seats.  The food was good and the service very good as well.  The flight left Houston nearly an hour late, but they made up most of the time.  Changing planes at Charles de Gaulle was challenging, as we had been warned.  But we made it we a few minutes to spare, having to go through security again in the new terminal.

Switching to Alitalia from Air France was a bit like changing to a 3rd world country.  The planes were older and worn and the entire experience was interesting.  The airport at Rome seemed old and out of date, and we exited the plane outside on stairs, in the rain!  They put us on a bus (think extra large rental car bus with no seats, just standing room), and took us to the terminal.  When it was time to leave it was back on a bus to another airplane.  We grabbed a pannini in the airport in Rome, and it was outstanding!  Prosciutto and mozerella with some fresh basil.  Flight to Naples was uneventful and again we exited on stairs outside.

Naples is very dirty and we are glad we just passed through.  We caught a bus to the port and took the hydrofoil to Capri.

It's late and time to retire.  More on Capri in the morning.

  1. I loved Air France... but HATED Charles de Gaulle!!! I got SO lost and barely made my flight, so I can completely understand! Glad to hear you are safely there! Can't wait to hear more!

  2. We agree - not impressed at all with Naples - dirty! We took the hydrofoil back from Capri to Naples. But really, Jim, Italy is NOT a 3rd world country! Hope your suitcase finds you soon. Enjoy that prosciutto and fresh mozzarella - SO good! Try it with melon too. Looking forward to your daily posts!

  3. Vickie,

OK, you are right. But I was really commenting on the airplanes the airports we saw, which were not up to current standards. No complaints on the rest we have seen so far.
