It's clear at this point that blogging with select photos and keeping up with real time events is impossible. So this post is to bring you up to date with today's events.
We left Capri Tuesday having had a really great time. We have some beautiful photos yet to upload and I will do that as time and available wifi permit. The tour books advise visiting Capri for the day, but we really enjoyed being there at night and could easily spend a week there relaxing and touring the island. There are many great restaurants there as well with fantastic views that we would enjoy. I would rent a scooter next time to run around (Linda would not commit to riding with me this time, but I think I could persuade her). Our weather was not great either and a week of sunny weather would also be nice.
We left Capri Tuesday on a jet boat for Sorrento and arrived mid-afternoon at the port. This is where we joined our Monograms tour. Our hotel is a 300+ room Hilton, very new and modern, decorated in a contemporary style. After the more traditional 4-star boutique hotel of 24 rooms on Capri, this was actually a bit disappointing at first. It is actually very nice and we have settled in, but the smaller hotel felt more like a vacation in Italy. We were in the middle of the port in Capri, but in the hills above Sorrento with a bit of a walk to town.
We met our Sorrento tour guide, Annamaria, Tuesday evening and got some advice for dinner. We continue to eat very well! Wednesday morning she took us and another couple on a walking tour of Sorrento where we learned about the history of the area and the local crafts, inlaid woodworking on fine furniture and handmade cameos. Wednesday afternoon we took the train to Pompeii for a really interesting experience. What an incredible place. I'll post about that later.
Today, Thursday, we are going to Amalfi and Positano. The original plan was to take the ferry over to Amalfi and the bus back, stopping in Positano on the way back. But the ferry isn't running today because of weather forecasts, so we are now standing in line for the bus to Amalfi instead. Because the ferry was cancelled, the
Bus line is quite long (see photo) and is at least that much longer behind us.
That brings the blog up to date with real time events. I will post specific topics and impressions from here forward and not worry about maintaining a sequential timeline.
Thanks for keeping us updated ! Am enjoying the blog posts AND photos. Is it your birthday yet? How many hours are you ahead of us? Mrs. Smokey
ReplyDeleteGlad you are enjoying it! Italy is 6 hours later than East Coast time. BDay is tomorrow, but I wasn't really thinking about it as we have been very busy.

Happy Birthday and I am checking your blog daily. ps I turned your A/C to 60 degrees. Remember your age and make sure to rest, drink water and have some snacks. Don't hit on any of the blue haired women in your tour.

Thanks for watching the house and making sure we are paying our fair share of the electricity bills next month! I think I will pass on the blue haired women.
